The power station turbines were originally driven by the waters of the first Dixence dam which was inundated in the Lac des Dix in 1957. Up to this time it held the world record for the highest height of fall.
The Chandoline installations are closely linked with the activities of the Grande Dixence SA and the Cleuson-Dixence complexes.
