Emosson-CFF : revision of 4 valves in our main workshops

Some important works have involved closing down the activities of the Electricité d'Emosson SA development – a Franco-Swiss company in which our shareholder Alpiq possesses all of the energy produced – and the partial interruption of the CFF power station in Châtelard. In this context, we are revising three large butterfly valves (DN 2600, 2500 and 2000) and one spherical valve (DN 500) in our main workshops in Martigny. Our clients benefit from this precious synergy generated by the very recent centralisation of our workshops.

The butterfly valves presently under revision are the valves at the head of the sediment- protected valves in:

  • Corbes at the start of the CFF power station in Châtelard and Emosson de Vallorcine
  • Ravoire at the start of the La Bâtiaz Emosson power station in Martigny

In order to take maximum advantage of the non-availability of the installations, we are revising and also restoring a group spherical valve in the CFF power station in Châtelard.

Within the framework of the revision of the butterfly valves, we have overhauled two different sites and organised the transport of the valves to our main workshops in Martigny where within a relatively tight time schedule of two months we will:

  • completely overhaul the valves
  • inspect the parts
  • make non-destructive checks
  • sand blast and give coats of anti-corrosion paint
  • machine various new parts – bolts
  • make various repairs (machining, welding/grinding …)
  • completely overhaul the valves in the workshop
  • test the pressure
  • transport and overhaul on site

Flexibility

This mandate has led us to direct collaboration with our clients who make regular stops. It shows the wide flexibility of HYDRO Exploitation’s resources, as to carry out this mandate during the time limit, we have more than doubled the workforce of our mechanical components overhaul workshop (RCM) by taking advantage of the available competence within our hydroelectric operating groups (GEH). At the peak moments of activity we have been able to count on the support of a score of GEH colleagues. Furthermore, our clients can benefit fully from the synergy generated by the coming together of the RCM workshops, wheel reconditioning (RR) and machining.
