Recent months have seen a ground drone added to our mobile inspection equipment. Cutting-edge technology for high precision in small-diameter pipes.
Ever since 2010, HYDRO has been offering robotic solutions for inspecting facilities that are inaccessible to humans. In this domain, remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) deployed underwater and in the air extend the capabilities of the controller.
Superior image quality
For several months now, engineers have been using a ground drone for small-diameter pipes. Not unlike a remote-controlled car, this lightweight mobile system is equipped with a high-definition 4K camera, encoders to measure the distance travelled, and a lidar (laser) system to assess the size of the objects or defects observed. Moreover, the quality of the images is far superior to those produced by conventional pipe inspection systems. Not only does the level of detail obtained make it easier to characterise defects, it also provides an enhanced objective assessment of the related risk.
Portability and low cost
In service since September 2023, this device is used by civil engineers to inspect small galleries and concrete pipes, and by mechanical engineers to observe penstocks and discharge pipes. The system’s modest footprint means it can be used as a portable measurement tool requiring no costly logistics to deploy.
